We got some fruit from a street vendor then headed over to St. Peters Church. We went to the top of its tower but this time there was no elevator... just 307 steep, creaky, and cramped steps. You had to pause and flatten against the wall to let people coming down the other direction get by. The view was similar to that from the Rathaus Tower. *** The interior of St. Peters was a sight to behold. This was the first of many cathedrals we would go through. Pictures can't really do it justice but looking at the small people should give some idea of the size. *** Inside the church was a picture that showed how the church looked after the bombings of WW II. It is amazing how well they were able to reconstruct and restore it.
Our next stop was the "Residenz" or Residence. A large building that housed elite German powers over the years (I'm typing this about a week after we visited and the details are escaping me). This building looks impressive in terms of size but the exterior does not give any clues as to what is inside!
The first part of the Residence tour consisted of various relics and displayed in cases. The second part was a tour of the Residence itself. This picture was at the start of the tour. The large structure behind Gina and Mike is made of many thousands of tiny sea shells and is much larger than it looks here (this was the side).
