As the last glow of sunlight fades. I was setting up for another shot of this, which I think would have been better than this one, while Gina walked back to the car where we had left the kids (too busy playing Gameboy to see boring overlooks). The walk to the overlook was further than we had thought so it was probably an 1/8 mile or so back to the car. Just as I was getting things adjusted I hear the car alarm going off. I had locked the Explorer with the key fob and the kids had unlocked the doors to let Gina in. *** Argghhh- I grab tripod and camera bag and take off running back to the car. When I come out of the woods and see it I start pressing the button to stop the thing (of course everyone is watching Gina trying to get into the car). Eventually it stops, she gets in, and I go back to try to get the shot I wanted. By then the 5 minutes of perfect light were gone, as was the shot.
We watched another great sunset and call it a day.
Ryan and I got up early again to see the sun rise. Overnight the smoke from the burns had blown into the canyon making for a surreal environment. A dead tree and a low hanging cloud made for a ominous picture.
