Since today would be our only full day at Grand Canyon, everyone else got up around 7:15 so we could do the South Kaibab trail. Well actually my plan was to do the first 2 miles of it. A 4 mile hike may not sound like much but the starting elevation was 7200 feet with the 2 mile point being at 5720 feet. We took the shuttle bus to the visitors center and then another bus to the Kaibab trailhead (shown here).
The trail starts off with a series of steep switchbacks that drop nearly 900 feet of elevation in the first 3/4 mile. Ryan was trying to capture lots of good video footage so we would stop, let Ryan frame a shot, then walk. Of course I was stopping pretty often to take photos as well. The temperature rose noticeably as we dropped in elevation and as the day warmed. The views were spectacular.
