I guess if you have a steamboat in the middle of a field, it makes sense to have a lighthouse also... The story behind this was pretty interesting- this was purchased for $50 at auction a long time ago by a family that was going to reuse the timber in it. Eventually it found its way here.
Onwards to the airport to catch our plane... *** Well we thought we had a plane to catch... Seems all that windy weather resulted in a lot of cancelled flights and some of those passengers got transferred to our plane. In the morning their were 17 open seats. When we got to the airport there were 0. We kept our fingers crossed that we would get on but prepared for just one of us going and swapped stuff so I could stay the night. After everyone else boarded, we asked if there were any seats. He checks and says "well it is a 50 seat plane and there are 48 people on board... BUT one of the seats is broken". Unbelievable. We quickly say good bye and Gina walks down the ramp to board, I walk away to a phone to start trying to line up a spot on the 6:05 AM flight. *** A few minutes later I hear "Keith... Keith...". I look back towards the gate and there is Gina waving. Turns out there were actually 49 people on the plane... she was booted. I must admit I was not that sad, it would make a long night go quicker! *** We buy an overpriced turkey sandwhich and the snack bar lady feels sorry for us (plus is closing up) and gives us 3 donuts. That plus a pack of twizzlers and we have dinner. We scout out what looks like the best place to bed down and spend the next several hours reading, playing cards, and wishing we were home. Finally at midnight we try to get some sleep.
Sleeping in an airport is a joke. Gina takes a couch we found, I stretch out on the accompanying foot rest that must have had at least 3/16" of foam padding. Maybe even 1/4". About every 20 minutes I wake up with my back, side, or both hurting. At about 3 or 4 AM I stumble down to the other end of the hall and lay down on another couch... MUCH BETTER! We are talking inches of padding here. Of course I have to be folded up but by now I'm too sore/stiff to care. Finally at 4:45 we wake up and sit in kind of a stupor for about 20 minutes. Gina was actually pretty chipper (I don't really remember, I'm just going by the picture).
