The last section is a seriously steep incline up the mountain side. To give an idea of scale, the small red circled area just to the right of top center is the lift station we are headed to. I imagine it is at least 30 feet high but barely visible here. Compare that size to the snow (not sure if it is considered a glacier) sliding down the mountain.
Again the scale is difficult to appreciate here. Many tens of feet of snow on that ledge. At the top the window was blowing the snow into "snow dunes".
Finally nearing the top. Really amazing they could even build this up here. This is the highest altitude cable car station in Europe. I kept telling Gina that this is really a unique experience because short of climbing the Matterhorn or something similar, it is almost impossible to reach a peak such as this. *** The peak is at 12,684 ft, about 1 1/2 miles above Zermatt and the highest I've ever been while still on the ground. The Matterhorn itself climbs another 2000 ft to top out at 14,692 ft.
