Catching the last train back down to Lauterbrunnen.
Of course just as night was falling, the clouds finally broke up and we had crystal clear skies.
The next morning we took the 5:50AM train from Lauterbrunnen to get to the Zurich airport in time for our 10:30 flight which by all indications looked like we would have no problem getting on. Incredibly we waited and waited to clear on the standby list but when they called us (and all the other standbys) up it was bad news. The plane was overweight due to cargo. It wound up leaving with 15 empty seats (boy did that hurt) and some of its cargo still on the ground. Then the double bad news - because some of the cargo did not go, it would likely be the same situation the next day (and we would later find out this was already the second or third day this happened). The realization that we have lower priority than cargo on the lone flight per day sunk in.
